Hanako Varian, our founder
Something special drew founder Hanako to Newmarket, from her birthplace in Japan. It was more than her passion for working with racehorses. With an outsider’s clarity, she could see that this was a place where thoroughbred beauty, strength and speed had blended effortlessly with horsemanship to become a true art form.
Over 35 years spent at the forefront of the horseracing industry, Hanako has not only marvelled at the magic of the equine world, but has also come to appreciate the serious challenges it faces. Newmarket 875 is the culmination of a life spent devoted to horses, born out of a mission to share the wonders of our industry and hometown, with the world.
Newmarket
Newmarket in Suffolk, UK, is revered as the birthplace of horse racing - with an association dating back over 400 years when King James I first came to stay. But it was during the reign of King Charles II that the first recorded race took place - in 1622. Newmarket is a place steeped in royal patronage, tradition and global prestige, and for centuries it has nurtured the world’s finest thoroughbreds - from foal to racehorse.
